I write lyrics occasionally, and might one day get around to pulling the band together. Here's one of them.

Pangaea

It's a kind of hardened bond
That'll always stay strong
Even when the ends are far away

When it's forged from rainbow times
And mixed with beer and wine
There's nothing to hold it down

As we laugh and carry on
We'll keep it fighting on and on
Through both the good days and the bad

You'll be a fool and they won't care
What you say or what you wear
Or if your hair is far too long

Pangaea
Pangaea
Oh my Pangaea
Pangaea
Pangaea
Oh my Pangaea

Lands drift apart but it's the start
Of journeys that will soon depart
Bringing them back together

The tales they'll live on and on
Like the hanging plants of Babylon
Keeping their rivers linked

Yeah one day they'll reach the shores
and man you better grab your oars
'cause it's going to be a blast

The spirits leap like leprachauns
Spreading joy to all the dawns
and all because of love

Pangaea
Pangaea
Oh my Pangaea
Pangaea
Pangaea
Oh my Pangaea

Like a fish it'll swim upstream
Oh we'll send our magic dreams
While world's issues: they dissolve

Songs it sings and rhymes it brings
Universes come into being
Where a smile reigns over all

You'll think you've reached the final edge
But look down there it's another ledge
Trust - no need to be scared

Let gravity pull and south winds cool
Tall trees grow and as a rule
Take things for what they are

Pangaea
Pangaea
Oh my Pangaea

Pangaea
Pangaea
Oh my Pangaea

I've been bouncing that one round for a while.

Pangaea: the supercontinent that contained all of the Earth's landmass.

Wannabe Hipster Musings

So this blog is going to be a personal exploration of sorts. Therefore, I will share some of my background to enlighten you as to what sort of character I am. This may be tedious and boring, but the aim of the blog has purposes that extend belong merely your personal entertainment.

I am a 20 year old student from the University of Melbourne, Australia. I moved to this beautiful, mysterious city about 20 months ago and have loved every minute. Working out how to fit in to this new world has taken me on some interesting journeys, and continues to provide challenges each day.

I study Arts, though I tell people I study Anthropology and History in order to escape the stigma of saying "I study Arts". It seems this statement roughly translates to "I have no concern for my future employment, my future role in society and the needs of our world and merely want to engage in wanky self-indulgence for 3 years on a tax-payer funded study course." While elements of this are true, my aims in life are no different to anyone else. I want to be happy, stimulated and settled in the future. At the moment, I'm loving what I'm doing, and I haven't closed too many doors just yet. While I'm probably not going to be a plumber or an engineer, this does not mean my contribution to society will be zilch. Open your mind a little. Intellectual exploration drives human development and progress. History has taught me this. Anthropology is endlessly valuable - how else are people going to get along around the world without mutual understanding?

I am also a musician. I play the piano, the flute, the native american woodflute and have begun the ukelele. I also have a piano accordian in my room which I will one day learn. I will be sharing lyrics and ideas on this blog in the future.

As much as I resent the label, I probably fit into the category of "Indie". Skinny jeans, Buddy Holly-esque glasses, Greens-voting, Triple-J listening, bikeriding, hidden-laneway bar frequenter and appreciator of a good long machiatto betray me. I don't let the label limit me too much though. Red fisherman pants are far too comfortable not to wear.

That's all for now. Look forward to music, musings, stories, reviews, laughter and maybe some tears.

Cheers, Niels
